Schnapps Distilling Village of Stanz
The passionate schnapps distillers have won many prizes
In Stanz are about 150 households and 53 schnapps distilleries. 80 distillers actively use their distilling rights. In 2005 Stanz has been awarded being the top distilling village of Austria.
The knowledge of schnapps distilling has been handed on from generation to generation. Numerous prizes tell of the excellent quality of the Stanz distillates.
The sunny plateau above Landeck is one of the highest-lying fruit-growing areas of Europe. It is also home of the famous “Stanz plum”, which helped the region to gain the title “Culinary Region of Austria”. Plums, apples and pears as well as exotic fruit like bananas are used to make schnapps.
Guided "Schnaps"-tours
On a guided tour through a distillery it is possible to watch the distillers close-by and to taste schnapps. The addresses of the various distilleries are available in the downloads-section. Guided tours are organized for smaller and bigger groups.
