The fantastic orchards on the sunny plateau above Landeck are special, since the villages of Stanz and Grins rank amongst the highest-located fruit growing areas of Europe.

Stanzer Zwetschke - plumsStanz Plum

The beautiful orchards of the villages of Stanz and Grins are located at an altitude of 1,000m. Fruit production has had a long tradition in this area. Farmers have an additional income and the fruit growing secures sustainable agriculture in this region.

The delcious Stanz plum grows here. The plum helped the villages of Stanz, Grins and Pians to win the title “Austria Culinary Region”.

The slopes in the foothills of the Lechtal Alps have a dry alpine climate and get plenty of sunshine. Temperatures between day and night are subject to great fluctuation and together with the foehn they determine the area’s climate and provide for the intensive aroma of the fruitful plum.

The fruit and its products are marked by the intensive flavour of the fruit. Jams, liqueurs, toasted fruit slices and delicious cakes and dumplings are made with Stanz plums.

Other specialties are the typical brandy variations which are distilled in the small villages.

Stanz has been chosen to be the top distilling village of Austria. Check out Stanz distilling village!

The delicious plums ripen in the orchards of Stanz and Grins.
